How it is counted
A sounding's identity is its position, depth and time exactly as DCDB publishes them. The first
copy published is the original; later copies are duplicates, either resent under the same platform ID
or repeated under another. A vessel-day is one platform ID in one cell on one day, and copies under
another ID add none. Duplicates are measured in NCEI's published archive; causes are not attributed.
